Our Story

Flashback to the summer of 2010. We were just two barely teenage kids who had no idea who the other was. Austin and I are both from Troy and have lived here our whole lives, but growing up, we went to two different schools and participated in completely different things. He was into sports of all kinds and me, dance and traveling to competitions every weekend. There was just never any instance for us to meet, even living in the same small town. It wasn't until the summer of 2010 that Austin and I met. I had just turned 13 years old, and “ boyfriend” was just a word you would call someone you liked. You couldn't really date at 13; we couldn't even drive, haha.

My dad had volunteered to coach a Dixie Boys rec baseball team, and if you were a teenage girl, you were at Franklin Field watching all of the boys play and waiting to talk to them afterward. Since the day I was born, I've been super shy, so it was never like me to just go up and talk to a boy for any reason. My best friend Savanna's dad was a coach too that summer, so thankfully, I had her with me at all the games. I guess we were feeling festive one night and wore eye black to a game, don't ask us why because we still don't know, haha. After the game that night, this boy came up to me and asked why I had eye black on and proceeded to tell me how weird I looked. That boy was Austin Ingram. Nothing really happened after that, but later that summer, my dad became Austin's coach for summer ball, and that's really when I started to spark a little crush.

Our first "date" was going to get breakfast at Hardee's during one of the out of town tournaments that summer. It was right next door to the hotel we were staying at so we could walk. Of course, Savanna was with me, and I don't think I said any more than three words the whole morning. I was sure that was it; there was no way he would like me after that. He was the most outgoing person I had ever met, trying so hard to pull just a few words out of me. But I wasn't budging. Despite what I thought, he still liked me and stuck around after that awkward morning at Hardee's. We started dating on August 10, 2010–the first day of eighth grade. It's crazy to look back and think about how we were just two 13-year-old kids with so much ahead of us and honestly no clue what either of our futures would hold.

We went to separate schools that first year, went on as many "dates" as two kids who couldn't even drive could go on, and fell asleep talking on the phone probably every night. He so quickly became my best friend. Our freshman year of high school, Austin transferred to my school. School started in August and I'd say the first real chapter of our lives began. We were a little older and growing closer to each other every day. I don't think it ever dawned on me how long we had been together already. It just became natural for me to want to see and talk to him all day, every day. With high school came the obvious ups and downs of any teenage relationship, but no matter what, we were always there for each other and would find our way back. We would pass notes just about every day. We barely had any classes together, so we would stick them in each other's lockers, backpacks, or jackets to find throughout the day. I still have a box full of nearly all of them that I've kept even ten years later, and Austin does, too.

College rolls around, and we both head off to Auburn. So much older and more mature and head over heels in love, no doubt. We knew college came with new experiences, surroundings, and even new people, but we knew none of that mattered. Defying the odds of many people who said there was no way we'd last. Flash forward to now, ten years later, and I thank God for putting such an incredible person in my life way back when. There was no way to know, at 13 years old, that we would be where we are today, but boy am I glad that we are. For so many years now, I've never imagined my future with anyone other than my best friend. We have been through so many life chapters together: the good, the bad, happy, sad, and everything in between.

I think I'm most excited for this next chapter with Austin by my side and all of the amazing things that our future will hold. There's no way to put our whole story into words. Ten years. 3,650 days. 5,256,000 minutes, and so much in between. But looking back, I knew I loved him from that very first night at the ballpark when he was still a stranger I had just met. I'm thankful for all of our times so far, good and bad and all the memories from then until now. I'm thankful I have my best friend and the one who will be there with me through it all, until the end of times. The one to pick me up when I'm down and make me laugh until I could cry. The one to push me to be the best version of myself and to always strive for greatness. All of those things and so much more come with Austin's love every day. I can't wait to be his wife! January 16, we're ready for you!!

Our Engagement

-

Our engagement was a long time coming, and I always said he'd never be able to surprise me. Well, I was very wrong, and it was the greatest surprise weekend ever. It was my birthday weekend, and I had a cookout with my friends already planned for that Saturday night. The week leading up to it brought up several hints that it may be happening, but I was completely convinced otherwise by the middle of the week. Saturday came along, and we headed to his parents house for "family pictures." His mom texted us earlier in the week, telling us that his dad got her these pictures for Mother's Day. Austin went a different way out there, which was odd, and we ended up at the most beautiful location in Banks, Alabama, which is special to both of our families. We pulled up, and it was decorated beautifully with a handmade cross by his dad and beautiful greenery and flowers by his sister, Alex. Everything was perfect, and more than I could have ever imagined! All of our families were hiding in the woods across the pond watching, and they came out and surprised us after Austin proposed. We toasted and shared stories about how our families have been intertwined for many years. It was so special that we were all together. Afterward, my birthday cookout turned into a surprise engagement party thrown by my very best friends, and it was the best night celebrating!
